Mint Fog | Apartment

Interior Design: Natalia Prokopenko
Visualisation: Ksenia Serebrennikova
Area: 130 m2
Location: Moscow, Russia
This apartment was designed with a young family of three in mind. They enjoy spending time together, especially during dinner. As a result, we decided to create a single open space that combines the kitchen, dining, and living areas. Since they didn't have much use for a large, traditional dining table, we opted to replace it with a spacious and versatile kitchen island. This island serves various purposes, such as cooking while watching your favorite TV series, engaging in creative activities with your child, or enjoying a family breakfast together.

Kitchen/Livingroom ↓
This large, symmetrical, minimalist, and timeless kitchen is designed to be a beautiful, functional, yet understated element. It doesn't take center stage but instead serves as an elegant, neutral background, with the lighting emphasizing its stepped geometry.
Bathroom/Laundry ↓
At the apartment entrance, there are two bathrooms. The first, which is relatively compact at 6 square meters, also includes a laundry room—a requirement from the customer who preferred not to place a washing machine in the kitchen. The second bathroom, a little bit more spacious and designed for bathing relaxation, doesn't sacrifice functionality. It features big storage space on the central wall and two separate sinks at the washbasin area, offering added convenience during busy mornings when the entire family is preparing for work and kindergarten.
Children's room ↓
One of the most challenging tasks is finding the right balance between a minimalist design for a children's room and creating a space that fosters their creativity. If the room is designed too much like an adult's minimalist space, it might not be entirely comfortable for the child. To address this, we've embraced what we like to call "children's minimalism." This approach doesn't diverge significantly from the overall style of the apartment but doesn't overshadow the child's presence either.

Children's minimalism also serves practical purposes. Firstly, it makes cleaning up after energetic play and fun quite easy, as everything has its designated place for toys and clothes. Secondly, the lack of an overwhelming number of details in the standard children's interior setup allows the child to add their own personal touches over time, thereby infusing the room with their unique personality and character.
Bedroom and wardrobe ↓
The bedroom serves as a natural extension of the ""Mint Fog" concept, embracing its soothing colors and textures. Maintaining minimal details and striving for simplicity in the bedroom is of paramount importance. At the close of a busy day, the bedroom becomes an oasis of serenity and tranquility, offering respite not just in a physical sense, but also in its visual appeal.
The use of soft, neutral, and calming colors plays a pivotal role in establishing the right ambiance for restful sleep, while seamlessly aligning with the overall style of the apartment.
